The Taiwanese-American Foundation (TAF) was established in November 1982 in Southern California. The founders are Mr. & Mrs. Kenjohn Wang of Long Beach, California who are originally from Taiwan. They generously contributed one million dollars following the example of Alfred Nobel in awarding and recognizing those who love Taiwan, identify Taiwan as their homeland, and who have achieved on outstanding accomplishment in their own fields or in any of the following three categories: 

(1)  Science and Engineering award,
(2)  Humanities award,
(3)  Social Services  award.

In early years, the winner in each category was entitled to receive ten thousand dollars and the selection of award winners was held every year. Since 1989, the selection is held every other year and since 1993, the award prize in each category has been raised to twenty thousands dollars. 

Since its inception, TAF has been overseen by a Board of Directors who were carefully chosen among Taiwanese American leaders in Southern California who have great respect from their community. 

Organization: TAF is a public benefit non-profit organization. Its capital does not belong to any individual or any group of people. 

Qualification of Applicants for Awards and Award Evaluation Process:

Individuals, regardless of their ethnic origin who love Taiwan and recognize Taiwan as their homeland qualify for TAF awards. Each applicant must be nominated by a well-established organization, on the recommendation of three individuals of integrity. Application form can be obtained from the TAF office by mail or phone or directly download from TAF website at www.tafaward.com. For this year, the deadline of application is June 30. The award winners will be announced in early August and Award Ceremony will be held  on  November 24, 2007.
