LEADER AWARDWen-Ling Tu 杜文苓

Ms. Tu was born
in Taipei, Taiwan in 1971. She graduated from National Taiwan University, and
later received her MS degree in Environmental Science and Forestry from State
University of New York, Syracuse, NY. She is currently working on her Ph. D.
at UC Berkeley. Ms. Tu is one of the founders of the Taiwan Environmental
Action Network (TEAN). She was an active member of the US Greenpeace
Organization in Massachusetts and served as a legislative assistant at Hsieh
Chang-Ting's office, conducting research on Environmental Law and Legislative
Process.
Special Achievement
Ms. Tu is an active and conscientious environmentalist and
social worker. As one of the founders of TEAN, Ms. Tu attended the Global
Biodiversity Forum, and the COP7 of Ramsar Convention in Costa Rica this year
on the behalf of Taiwan. Besides voicing her opinions on the global
environmental issues in the Forum, Ms. Tu also gathered strong support for
Taiwan from representatives of other countries. As a co-chair of TEAN, Ms. Tu
is in charge of projects which bridge Taiwanese environmental groups and
international NGOs.
