Neng-Chi Lee 李能棋(李喬)

 

Mr. Li was born in Miewli in 1934. He graduated from Sinchu Normal College, and passed National College Certification Examination. He was an elementary school teacher for four years, middle school teacher for twenty-one years, and is currently the chief editor of Taiwan Literature Publishing House.

Special Achievement

He has been writing literature for more than thirty years and has published 14 novellas, ten novels, and two volumes of novel criticism. He is one of the most productive writers in Taiwan after the War. He wrote about his childhood, people of the countryside, and their sentiments of life, life at the corners of society, and various stages of culture changes in Taiwan. He has contributed greatly to the rise of native Taiwan literature, and inspired Taiwanese to understand their roots and own culture. His "Three Movements of Cold Night" was called the Taiwanese "War and the Peace". He is greatly concerned with the Taiwanese human rights movement, and imposes the cooperation and respect amoung different groups.
