SPECIAL ART CONTRIBUTION AWARD LAUREATE
Shih Chiao Li 李石樵

Mr. Li was
born in Hsing Chuang, Taipei Hsieh in 1908. He graduated from Taipei Normal
School and from Tokyo Fine Art College, Japan. He was a founder of the Taiyang
Fine Art Association during Japanese occupation, and served as an evaluator of
the National Painting Exhibition, Provincial Painting Exhibition and Wu San
Liang Culture and Education Foundation. He established his own foundation, "Li
Shih Chiao Fine Art Foundation" and served as its chairman since.
Special Achievement
Mr. Li was a rigorous and productive oil painter. His oil
paintings garnered prizes seven times in the Japanese Imperial Painting
Exhibition. He stubbornly refused to leave wealth to his children and donated
over 500 paintings of his own to the "Li Shih Chiao Fine Art Museum" so that
the general public of Taiwan could share and enjoy his creations. His
selflessness and his great personality should be remembered.
