LAUREATEKuang-Tsung Wang 王光燦

Dr. Wang
was born in Taipei Taiwan in 1929. He graduated from National Taiwan
University with a BS degree in Chemistry, and received his Doctorate of
Science from Japan Northeast University. He was associate research fellow at
the Department of Chemistry at Stanford University and a visiting scientist of
Hormone Research Laboratory at University of California, San Francisco. He is
currently Professor of Chemistry at National Taiwan University and a research
fellow as well as being Director of Institute of Biological Chemistry at
Academia Sinica.
Special Achievement
Dr. Wang is a leading chemist in Taiwan in the areas of
organic chemistry and biochemistry. Two of his most important and far reaching
inventions are polyamide thin layers and microwave peptide analysis. The
former was widely used for amino acid and sequence analyses of peptides and
for compositional analysis of many organic compounds. The latter facilitates
the synthesis and analysis of large polypeptides. His contribution in
enzymatic organic synthesis has opened a new field in peptide chemistry. As a
lifetime researcher and teacher, Dr. Wang has contributed greatly in the
fields of chemistry and biochemistry in both academia and industry circles.
