1993  PRESS FREEDOM CONTRIBUTION AWARD LAUREATE

Feng-Shan Wu 吳豐山 

 

Mr. Wu was born in Tainan Taiwan in 1945. He received a BS degree in Politics and a Masters degree in Journalism from National Politics University. He was elected as assemblyman of Taiwan twice. He became chairman, president, and reporter of The Independence Evening Post and The Independence Morning.

Special Achievement

He has devoted his life to journalism, strongly believing in freedom of speech. He urged the government to make great reform in the control of news. Both The Independence Evening Post and The Independence Morning were almost the only daily newspapers that dared to challenge the press authority during the martial law era. His dedication to journalism and his belief of freedom of speech accelerated the process of the democratic movement in Taiwan.
