Born in
Taipei in 1938, Dr. Wu received his medical education from National Taiwan
University, and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Case Western Reserve
University. He served as professor in Department of Biochemistry and
Department of Biophysics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He is
currently a William and Florence Catacosinos Professor for Cancer Research in
the Department of Pharmacological Sciences at State University of New York at
Stony Brook, and is also a research fellow of Academia Sinica and Director of
Biomedical Institute, Academia Sinica.
Special Achievement
Dr. Wu is a distinguished physical biochemist and
pharmacologist. His study of proteins and DNA using many novel enzymatic and
spectroscopic approaches has led to a deeper understanding of how genes are
controlled. He has made many landmark studies and enriched the biotechnology
field. As a devoted scientist in the U.S., he has won over a half dozen awards
from NIH and other organizations. In 1989, Dr. Wu was on sabbatical and was
chosen as Director of Biomedical Institute of Academia Sinica in Taiwan where
he initiated a new research program in oncology.
