Tyzen Hsiao 蕭泰然

 

Mr. Hsiao was born in Kaohsiung, in 1938. He graduated Taiwan Normal University with a B.S. degree in Music and later graduated from California State University, Los Angeles with a Masters in Art. He was an Associate Professor of Music at Tainan Home College, and an instructor of Kaohsiung Wun-Zao Girl Foreign Language College. While residing in the U.S., he headed the Taiwan Music Association in Southern California and was President of Northern California Taiwanese Culture and Art Association, and founder and conductor of North America Culture Association Chamber Music Group.

Special Achievement

He is a world class composer as well as a performer. Among his creations are "Psalms of the Taiwanese", "Traveler", "Snack Stand", "Symphony OP.49 (1987)" and "Symphonic Poem for Strings (1986)". His famous music piece, "Tyzen Hsiao Violin Concerto in D OP.50 (1988)", is recognized for integrating Taiwanese folk music with the techniques of Western music. He focused on the productions that propelled Taiwanese music advanced to different level. He made tremendous effort to organize and perform a series of large scale and very successful concerts in North America and Southeast Asia, and encouraged the younger generation to appreciated and upgrade Taiwanese music.
