I-Chiu Liao 廖一久

 

Dr. Liao was born in Fonyuan, Taichung in 1936. He graduated from National Taiwan University with a B.S. degree, and graduated from Japan Tokyo University with a Ph.D. in Farming. He established Tungkang Marine Laboratory in the late sixties and has worked there since. He was a research fellow of the Rock Baler Foundation, professor of Zoology at National Taiwan University and Taiwan Marine Product Testing Institute.

Special Achievement

He established Tungkang Marine Laboratory and developed the Laboratory into a world class aquaculture center. With his dedicated research and enormous contributions to the culture of prawn, he is recognized as the "Father of Monodon" by both prawn farmers and marine scientists. He has contributed greatly in the development of prawn culture technique and the transformation of Taiwan into a major prawn producer and exporter. Many countries in Southeast Asia and South America have adopted his technique, and his achievement is now widely recognized in the world.
