Jang-Yen Wu 吳政彥

 

Dr. Wu was born in Tainan in 1942. He graduated form National Taiwan University with a B.S. degree in Chemistry, and from UC San Francisco with a Ph.D. in Biochemistry. He was a post-doctor research fellow at UCLA Biology Graduate School, a research fellow in The City of Hope Hospital in Los Angeles, and an associate professor at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He is currently a professor in the Department of Physiology, College of Medicine at Pennsylvania State University, Hershey, PA. 

Special Achievement:

Dr. Wu has focused on nerves transporting material research, and he has successfully identified the synthetic compound of Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid (GABA) which is the main medium of transporting signals through brain cells. His breakthrough research showed how Valium would work in animals, and proved that different yeasts combine Taurine and Gaba. His great achievement in Biochemistry has become a model for the younger generation.
