Jiunn-Yih Lin 林俊義

Dr. Lin was born in Taipei in 1938. He graduated from National Taiwan University with a B.S. degree in Foreign Language, and later from Indiana University with a Masters and Ph.D. in Ecology. He lectured in East Africa Kenya University and later became head of the Department of Public Health and Environment in Indiana University. Upon returning to Taiwan, he was a professor of Biology in Tunghai University, became head of Biology Research Center, and later became director of the Ecology Research Institute. He served as the first president of the Asian Ecology Association.

Special Achievement

Dr. Lin has been researching habitation areas of Taiwan Mountain mammals and has published many articles on these subjects. He is concerned about the ecological change in Taiwan and the living environment of its inhabitants. In addition to his research papers, Dr. Lin also authored articles on environment preservation. His books such as " Introspection of Science and Civilization", " Environment, Science and Technology" advocate humanitarianism and try to stir social awareness in the general public. He stayed in Kenya for three years to help establish a biology department, and traveled to Central America and Southeast Asia for ecological studies. He has made great contributions in advocating the preservation of ecological environments and natural resources in Taiwan. In 1984, the Department of Education in Taiwan elected him as a Distinguished Professor.
