LAUREATE
Yong-Shing Chen 陳永興

Mr. Chen
was born in Kaohsiung in 1950. He graduated from Taiwan Tainan First High
School, Kaohsiung Medical School, and later received his MS of Public Health
from UC Berkeley. He worked as a volunteer of Kaohsiung LifeLine and Home of
Paralyzed Children and was a founder of Baida Mountain Missionary. Besides
being a doctor at Taipei Medical Center, he is director of the Psychology
Department at Taipei Medical School, President of Taiwan Culture and Art
Publishing Co., and a central committee member of the Progressive Democratic
Party.
Special Achievement
He is a missionary, a doctor, and a social worker. He
published "Mountain Missionary in Wu-Tai", " Words of a Doctor", "Flying into
Cuckoo Nest", and "Contemporary People of Taiwan". He has a kind heart and has
shown great concern to the underprivileged and the minorities of society.
Advocating social reform and the transformation of Taiwan culture, he urges
Taiwanese whether in Taiwan or overseas to build self-confidence, care for
their motherland and contribute more in social and civic services. His
unselfish sacrifices and his endless contribution underprivileged culture have
surely made him a role-model.
