1983 SCIENTIFIC AND ENGINEERING AWARD LAUREATE

Shu - Tsung Liao 廖述宗

Mr. Liao was born in Taichung, in 1931. He graduated from National Taiwan University with a B.S. and Master degree in Farming, and later he received his Ph.D. in Bioorganic Chemistry from University of Chicago. He was a research fellow and an associate professor at University of Chicago Ben May Cancer Research Center. Currently, he is a professor in the Bioorganic Chemistry Department at University of Chicago.

Special Achievement

He has won a reputation of devoting his entire life to basic bioorganic research in hormones and cancer. He has repeatedly published articles in world-renowned academic journals, headed international research projects, chaired international conferences, and was editor of numerous academic journals. He was one of the founders of the North America Taiwanese Professors Association, which has called together many outstanding Taiwanese professors and research fellows as its members so that they can contribute their research experience and academic specialty to help Taiwan develop into a more advanced and democratic country.
